Don Means, Treasurer

I have been serving as Treasurer for the Bearded Collie of America Charitable Trust since the inaugural meeting in October of 2008. In 2006, I was appointed to the BCCA Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer for 4 years and enjoyed meeting and developing long-lasting friendships with the members. I have had the opportunity to also serve as Treasurer for 3 Specialties in 2004, 2009 and 2010.

For the past 26 years, I have enjoyed owning and operating a Farmers Insurance and Financial Services office. In 2006 and 2010, I won the coveted Agent of the Year for our District. In 2006, I was elected to serve as the President of the Elizabeth Area Chamber of Commerce, and I held that position until December of 2011. I have been advisor to the Downtown Advisory Committee and also a Director on the Elizabeth Master Plan for the town of Elizabeth, Colorado. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Elizabeth Fire Protection District.

Married just 18 years ago to Elodji, our wedding present to each other was our first Beardie. We have enjoyed breeding, conformation, herding, agility and rally; and maybe most important, enjoying companionship. Working with our rescue coordinator, Nancy Shock, we have rescued and fostered several Beardies until a forever home could be found. Our home is occupied by 3 Beardies from age 14 to 3! I have had the privilege to be involved in the world of Beardies for over 18 years.

In December of 2008, the Declaration of Trust was signed by Linda Taylor, Cindy Alspaugh and me to create an opportunity for Beardie owners to be able to provide for the Health and Rescue of Bearded Collies for years after any one of us will be able to do so. I am proud to be associated with an organization that looks forward to all the possibilities that can help the Bearded Collie.
